One of my servers (the front-end proxy for this website) had a disk full…. Images on this site didn’t show, some other things didn’t work. What caused this?

The proxy server has a standard Ubuntu installation. The system disk was setup with a 4GB volume, while the disk has 50Gb on it. Logs were slowly eating up disk space and guess what? 4 GB isn’t that much. So eventually when some updates arrived, this filled up the system disk grinding everything to a halt.

The solution was simple: lvextend the volume, resize2fs for resizing the file system and after that an apt --fix-broken install to fix the broken update. Once that all was done, apt-update / upgrade / autoremove and a reboot… Everything works again.

Sorry for the downtime 🙄
